Direct Metal Laser Sintering DMLS 3D Printing
Direct Metal Laser Sintering or DMLS is an industrial 3D printing technology, which builds parts from a range of metal materials one layer at a time – by carefully sintering metal based powders together. This process is capable of building highly complex shapes, which would be almost impossible to make via other 3D printing methods.
The difference between DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering) and SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) is the type of materials that can be used to print the required parts.
DMLS Materials available at HLH: Tool Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminium, Copper, Titanium. Contact the team to find out more.

Advantages of DMLS Printing
- Great for functional parts and prototypes
- Complex geometries
- Low volume production possible
- Range of materials
One of the greatest strengths of DMLS is its ability to create complex geometries. As such, it is often used to make parts that need more detail and tend to be less structurally sound.
What is DMLS 3D Printing used for?
DMLS is a great choice for manufacturing complex shapes and geometries which would either be impossible or incredibly expensive to manufacture via conventional processes. Used extensively in automotive, aerospace and medical industries it is a great choice for weight saving applications and part consolidation.

Due to the weight of the material overhanging sections will almost always need support which must be removed post process. Post process machining of parts is required to achieve tight tolerances and for holes and threads.
